The county
Carrizo Springs (county seat) · plus Asherton, Big Wells, Catarina, Brundage
Created in 1858 and organized in 1880; named for Philip Dimmitt of the Texas Revolution (the second 't' was dropped from the county name by a clerical error that stuck). Asherton and Catarina were planned 'Winter Garden' irrigated farming towns founded c. 1909. Today the county is core Eagle Ford gas-condensate territory.
